Microsoft has recently announced that Windows 10 will be released on July 29th, and I guess those with both legitimate copies and illegitimate copies will be able to upgrade to Windows 10, 100% for free.
I wonder why Microsoft is doing this? For years and years Microsoft has fought against piracy when it comes to their operating system and it kind of baffles me knowing that they are going to try to upgrade everyone to Windows 10.
I guess in a certain sense, it makes sense!
Being able to have that big of an audience on a legit copy of their Windows platform means that they will have a lot more users using their economy system and other parts of Windows so I guess in a sense it does make sense.
People are going to be pirating the software anyway, why not just get everyone on board and move forward with the operating system?
In my opinion this was a very smart move and I’m very excited for what the future holds not only for Windows 10 but Microsoft as a whole. It sure sounds like they have a few tricks up their sleeves for the years ahead…
What do you guys think of this new Windows operating system?
Will you be upgrading to it?

I’ll stick to my opinion as to why other companies in the business have been acting odd lately: Steam. I’d like to believe that the other companies are trying to compete with SteamOS before it comes out. Microsoft in particular seems to be preparing. With 10 being positioned as it is, along with the fact that they are coming out with a neat, customizable controller for the Xbox One and trying to pair all of the Xbox One games with Windows 10, it feels like they are trying to sway gamers to stick with the Microsoft brand.
Hey Mark,
Microsoft definitely wants to be the top dog when it comes to PC gaming but it’ll be neat once we see what SteamOS can do for Steam games and beyond. I wonder if SteamOS will be able to have DX12?
