Best Free To Play PC Games In 2018

Last Updated on February 27, 2018

Just because a game is free to play (F2p) doesn’t mean that they’re low quality and not fun, usually it’s the other way around! Plenty of F2P games have come out in the past year alone so let’s take a look at some of the best free to play PC games that are available in 2018.

You’ll see some of the usual games that are shared as well as one or two that aren’t mentioned as much that deserve to be on a list like this. We’ve done a list similar to this before which will have some of the same titles mentioned, they’re simply still relevant.

Best Free To Play Games in 2018

Team Fortress 2

If you’re going to be playing any FPS game, especially if you’ve just finished your build or bought your first pre-built gaming PC, then Team Fortress 2 (TF2) is a must-play.

It came out years ago and it still has a large community behind it. It has updated a lot since release and is still just as fun if not more fun than when it was a completely new and fresh experience.

TF2 inspired a lot of the shooters that you see today and it’s a timeless classic. If you’re new to the PC gaming community then you’re almost obligated to give TF2 a shot.

It doesn’t take up much hard drive space and you’re guaranteed to have fun if you enjoy multiplayer FPS games. Give it a shot!

Warframe

Warframe definitely isn’t a game for everyone but it’s worth mentioning  when you’re talking about the top F2P titles to play this year.

There was a big update not too long ago which added new ways of exploring and there is now a lot more content to get through compared to when the game was first coming out.

My favorite part about Warframe is the customization, I can sit for a long time switching up how I look. The gameplay is unique as well!

Personally, I couldn’t get too into it. I’ve spent a decent amount of time in-game, it’s a blast when playing with friends. If you’re looking for a third-person co-op shooter then you need to try Warframe for sure.

Fortnite Battle Royale

Fortnite Battle Royale has taken the battle royale genre by storm, literally. Each circle that closes in is basically a deadly storm coming in to get everyone closer together, last man standing wins.

This has been an extremely popular game and unless you’ve been hiding under a rock from the gaming world, you already know about it.

It has had more concurrent players than PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds – a game that broke the record by a crazy margin for most players online and playing at one time.

I personally enjoy Fortnite more compared to PUBG because I enjoy the building mechanics and I feel more casual while playing it.

If you want a battle royale type of game that is more casual then you should try out Fortnite Battle Royale, it’s a lot of fun!

Paladins

Paladins has a love/hate relationship with the PC gaming community. Some can’t help but talk bad about how it’s a blatant Overwatch rip-off where others say that they can’t afford Overwatch and that they’re thankful for Paladins as the go-to arena shooter that’s free.

They’ve taken it one step further by announcing a Paladins “Battlegrounds” mode which the name obviously is inspired by PUBG… to each their own I suppose.

After playing both Overwatch and Paladins I can say that Paladins is clearly inspired by Overwatch but there are still some unique aspects to the game.

If a “poor man’s Overwatch” sounds intriguing to you then Paladins will be worth trying out. And with the new Battlegrounds mode we also have another battle royale game on the horizon.

Battlerite

I’m on and off with Battlerite and if the combat systems of games such as Dota 2 or League of Legends doesn’t interest you then Battlerite won’t be something you’ll enjoy.

Battlerite basically takes the combat systems from these MOBA type games and pits people against each other without any of the towers, minions or items.

You pick your champion for 2v2 or 3v3 situations and hop into the arena. Matches are fast and all of the champions are well balanced.

This game is pretty intense, if you’ve ever been interested in MOBAs but don’t like how long the matches are or if you don’t like how it works with the towers, minions etc then you should check out Battlerite!

Brawlhalla

If you’re a fan of Smash Bros at all then Brawlhalla will be worth looking into. It’s a 2D brawler type game where you have to knock your opponents out of the map to win.

Each legend has their own combination of weapons and unique “signature” moves. What I really enjoy about Brawlhalla is that it can be played casually or if you are wanting to learn the game more you can get very competitive as well with ranked.

It’s an easy to learn but hard to master type of fighting game and I’ve been enjoying it thoroughly. If you want something of a “Smash” clone that is still unique in its own way then Brawlhalla is worth trying. It’s an extremely small download.

Path of Exile

If RPGs are more your style then you’ll maybe appreciate what Path of Exile brings.

Many that play Path of Exile play because it’s what Diablo III should have been. It’s an action RPG with a very deep leveling system which makes every play style unique.

You can use magic and dual-wield axes or switch it up to be good with a bow instead… it’s completely up to you. When it comes to ARPG type games, Path of Exile is the best F2P one by far.

I definitely recommend trying it out if you’re interested in games like Diablo or even RPGs in general. You can sink a lot of time in with this one.

    • I’m wanting to get back into it, I’ve been playing Titan Quest which is an older ARPG but POE will probably scratch that ARPG itch better than anything else out there 😛
